Meet the Director
GARY GRIFFIN is the Associate Artistic Director at the Tony Award winning Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where he has directed A Flea in Her Ear, A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park with George, Pacific Overtures, The Herbal Bed, Short Shakespeare! A Midsummer Night's Dream and Short Shakespeare! Romeo and Juliet. His Broadway directing credits include the smash hit The Color Purple which received 11 Tony nominations including Best Musical and The Apple Tree which received a Tony Nomination for Best Musical Revival. He has numerous Off-Broadway credits as well and directed Pacific Overtures at the Donmar Warehouse in London which was awarded the Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production and an Olivier Award nomination for Best Director. He also has received eight Joseph Jefferson Awards for directing.

Having recently directed The Color Purple on Broadway, Olivier Award-winner Gary Griffin brings us a newadaptation of Feydeau's masterful French farce that was a recent hit at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. The story begins when Madame Raymonde Chandebise suspects that her husband Victor’s lack of affection indicates he is having an affair behind her back. To prove her suspicions, Raymonde writes an anonymous letter to him requesting a romantic rendezvous at a disreputable hotel. Victor misinterprets the letter and sends his friend Tournel, a notorious womanizer, in his place. This results in a series of misunderstandings, misplaced jealousies, mistaken identities and numerous side-splitting complications. “A good many laughs along the way, and laughter is always a fine medicine.” — Chicago Sun-Times
